Dragon Ball Xenoverse Review

So some may be upset with my review, oh well. The game is quite fun and very replayable it starts off with you playing a few classic scenes as Goku, where you end up defeating Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu (I know Goku didn’t beat Cell moving on) it continues on into a cutscene where Trunks asks Shenron for a Strong Warrior to aid him in saving Time since someone is messing with History. There you can now create your own Custom Character!

If you back up a bit you may notice you only have one character creation slot open don’t worry, after you beat the main story it will unlock. So you are given the choice to create either a Female/Majin, Saiyan, or Human, also the genderless Namekians and Frieza Race (which they probably should have named the race something other than Frieza Race). As you continue on you are greeted with a tutorial on fighting Trunks to test your skill like many Dragon Ball games you are rated Z being the highest and then fail being the lowest.

Don’t worry if you get a low score you can always redo it later on once you have leveled up. That’s right I said leveled up. In this game currently the max level is 80 and you can spend 3 skill points per level on Max Health, Max Ki, Max Stamina, Basic Attacks, Strike Supers, Ki Supers. Pretty Self Explanatory, anyways, after the tutorial he will send you to look for some people to talk to then send you on your first mission. After you complete your first mission and the Parallel Quest tutorial you can either train on Parallel Quests/With Krillin (to get new moves to replace the basic starter moves, also zeni) or you can jump right into the Saiyan Saga to go fight Vegeta and Nappa. Once you complete that saga online mode is then unlocked.

The key thing is once in unlock then there will be issues or was issues, there servers were full or to capacity as of last week/this week. Does this mean you can’t play? No just keep trying or you can turn your network off while trying to connect, it will set you into offline mode in the game and once you reconnect you can still do online Parallel Quests with your friends.

The games graphics are stunning are set you up to feel like the Dragon Ball Universe, though TokiToki City is a bit bland for a hub. As they can expand this later I wouldn’t worry. The Co-Op mode is only in PQs which isn’t a huge deal you tend to relive classic moments from Dragonball in them anyways. Remember to do them to gain Zeni, experience and new moves and gear at low level the better gear you have can make a huge difference. Once at level 80 it is more for appearance then anything.

Now moving on to the storyline and soundtrack. The storyline is quite fun, dealing with history changes and time travel, it is based off the now defunct Dragon Ball Online MMORPG. Maybe the Bandai and Namco will realize people want that type of game and retry the project. The soundtrack also gives you the feel of dragonball with the opening of chalala and other music.

I hope you enjoyed this review I really enjoyed the game and will continue playing it, I recommend you pick it up on on of the platforms it is on.
